Charlottesville Catholic School Rallies Aid for Victims of Hurricane Katrina
Charlottesville, VA – September 26, 2005 – In response to the disaster wrought by Hurricane Katrina, Charlottesville Catholic School principal Alan Yost proposed a challenge to his student council: try to raise more relief money than him in four days time. The student counsel rose above and beyond the challenge when they raised $8k to Mr. Yost’s $2k.
In response to the students’ efforts, Mr. Yost stated, “The amount of money that the students were able to raise is a direct reflection of the type students who are enrolled at Charlottesville Catholic School. Their caring nature and willingness to serve the community is very commendable.”
As a school with a great focus on community service, this was a natural service project for Charlottesville Catholic School. The students used a variety of methods to raise funds, from holding car washes to selling lemonade. Mr. Yost solicited donations from parents when they dropped off or picked up their children from school. The $10k raised by the school will go to Catholic Charities USA to aid Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
