School OfficeDuring the school year, the school office is open before and after school from Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. All incoming calls after 4 p.m. and before 7:30 a.m. will be answered by the automated answering system.
In an effort to encourage responsibility, students are allowed to use the phone for emergencies only. We discourage students from calling parents for forgotten items. Please encourage your child to double check that (s)he has all necessary items before arrival at school. Faculty EmailEmail addresses for all faculty and staff follow the same pattern: first initial then last name (no spaces, dashes or periods) @cvillecatholic.org (i.e. Alan Yost's email address is ayost@cvillecatholic.org). You can find faculty names and positions on this site's faculty page. CalendarThe annual school-wide calendar is sent in our summer mailing in August. Upcoming events will be listed weekly in each Tuesday Teller. The monthly/annual calendar is also available on the web site. Parents will be informed as soon as possible of any changes in the school calendar. Please be advised that any such changes are not made lightly, but are due to circumstances that are impossible to foresee. Every effort will be made to avoid any inconvenience that changes in the school calendar may cause. Tuesday TellerThe Tuesday Teller The Tuesday Teller is our weekly bulletin, which arrives home via your youngest child each Tuesday. The administration may use this resource to send home additional information or to communicate with parents. We ask that parents check it for important information when a child comes home. An electronic version (The E-Teller) is available upon request by filling out the eteller subscription request form. Parents are encouraged to register for the E-Teller. Emergency announcements are often sent out by way of E-Teller. Friday FolderEach Friday, expect a class news update in your child/ren's Friday Folder. The Friday Folder will highlight the work of the past week. The Friday letter, written by each teacher, will provide you with the curriculum for the upcoming week. You will be required to sign the folder indicating you have read the contents of the folder and to return it to school with your child on Monday or the next school day. Progress ReportsAll Middle School students, regardless of grade, will receive a mid-term interim report to be signed and returned. Individual reports may be sent home mid-quarter at the discretion of the classroom teacher. Progress reports are required if a student is receiving a "C" or lower at mid-quarter. All progress reports will be sent home through the students. These progress reports are to be signed by the parents, and returned the next day. Report Cards/GradingReport cards are based on a quarterly system. Grades one through eight receive letter grades while kindergarten receive developmental grades. Student performance is based on formal and informal assessments, class work, homework, teacher observations, and class participation. Student effort is also assessed and given an effort code, which is indicated on the report card. Students who fail one or more subjects for two consecutive quarters or have not been able to demonstrate mastery of the taught curriculum may be required to repeat the grade. Retention notification will be given to parents during conference time. The first quarter report cards are given out at the designated conference times. The second and third quarters are sent home via the Friday Folder. Are mailed after the last day of school. All report cards must be signed and returned to the classroom teacher within a week of receipt. The grading system is as follows:
Parent/Teacher ConferencesAny questions/concerns must be directed to the classroom teacher for resolution. If a resolution is not achieved, the principal may be consulted and a parent/teacher/principal meeting may be conducted. Parents are encouraged to freely consult with the teacher at any time during the school year. Please make an appointment with the teacher either by phone, note, or e-mail in order to set up a mutually convenient time. Please do not drop in on your child's classroom before or after school without first arranging a specified time with the teacher. Formal Conference DaysParent-Teacher conferences are scheduled twice a year - after the first reporting period in the fall (required) and then after the third reporting period the spring (optional). You will receive information regarding sign-up dates/times for these conferences. Parents of multiple children have priority for scheduling purposes, then other families may follow. Weather ClosingsCCS is an independent school and we do not fall under either county or city regulations for school closings or delays. In cases where school closing is necessary due to inclement weather, Charlottesville Catholic School will inform local radio and TV channels. These are: WINA (AM 1070), WKAV (AM 1400), WQMZ (FM 95.1), WWWV (97.5 FM), and on TV: NBC, CBS, and ABC. The school's automated voicemail system will provide school closing information as soon as feasible. School closing information is not posted directly to the CCS website since the administration notifies the TV and radio stations who then keep updated lists of closings on their websites.
If you do NOT see "Charlottesville Catholic School" specifically represented on the television news or hear a CCS announcement on the local radio stations, assume that we are open on time for that day. If your child will not be at school, please call the front desk. . Due to the wide range of road conditions during inclement weather, a child will be excused for tardies, early pick-ups or absences when a parent determines their particular route of travel is unsafe. In the event of a 2-hour delay, our doors open between 9:50 and 10:00 a.m. There is NO before care when we have a delayed opening. Please do not drop off your child for Before Care. It is important to note that the After-School Program will not be provided when school has been cancelled or closed early due to inclement weather. |
