Pre-kindergarten classes are currently held Monday through Thursday from 8:30am – 12:00pm.   Each class has a teacher and a teaching assistant. Pre-kindergarten students do not wear a school uniform.  Our Pre-K Extended Day Program is offered from 12:00-3:00pm, Mondays-Thursdays when school is in session.  New for the 2012-2013 School Year: Pre-kindergarten classes will be held Monday through Friday from 8:30am – 12:00pm.  The Extended Day Program will continue to be offered from 12:00pm – 3:00pm on those days as well.

Our Pre-K class begins the formal education process by introducing students to the fundamentals of social decorum and giving them the tools they need to start their academic careers. Students work together within different skill centers as they use hands on experiences to explore reading, math, and science concepts and practice fine motor skills. Our low teacher-to-student ratio allows our teachers to carefully monitor each child’s progress and provide appropriate guidance or intervention.

In accordance with the mission of the school, Pre-K children practice prayers such as grace before snack, the Lord’s Prayer, and spontaneous prayers for others. They listen to and participate in Bible stories and explore God’s world in nature. In addition, children learn social skills in the context of the expectations Jesus would have for His children.

Our Pre-K Extended Day program provides an extended day for children whose parents desire additional socialization for their child, prefer school hours that correspond to older siblings’ school day or have work obligations that conflict with a noon pick-up.   The program offers a variety of engaging activities that include story time, free play, and centers. Prorated amounts are available for commitments for specific weekdays (i.e. every Tuesday).   Drop in use of the Pre-K Extended Day Program will be  based on space availability for that day.

At Charlottesville Catholic School we believe in nurturing the whole child. A child’s early educational experience greatly affects how s/he will approach learning and overall achievement during his/her life. As with all students, we strive to inspire our 4-year olds with a lifelong thirst for knowledge while building character with a strong moral foundation.
