About the Art Teacher

Vanessa Craig, a Charlottesville native, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University.  Her studies at VCU afforded Ms. Craig the opportunity to take many studio classes as well as study the theoretical and practical aspects of art education.

Ms. Craig particularly enjoyed working in the ceramics studio and the photographic darkroom.  In 2003, Ms. Craig was given the opportunity to attend the University of Georgia, Lamar Dodd School of the Arts program in Cortona, Italy where she focused on alabaster sculpture and traditional ceramics.  This experience continues to be one of the biggest influences in her studio work.

After graduating, Ms. Craig worked with Region Ten Family Services as an Educational Support Specialist for Burnley-Moran Elementary School.  She has also worked in the Fairfax County Public Schools as a high school art educator.  At Westfield High School, Ms. Craig taught Sculpture I, II, and III, Photography, Computer Graphics and Art I before leaving the hustle and bustle of northern Virginia.

She has been teaching at Charlottesville Catholic since the fall of 2008.

Away from the classroom Ms. Craig enjoys working on her sculptures and altered books. She maintains a membership in the Virginia Association of Art Educators and the National Association of Art Educators.
